This is a bit old news article. But it is interesting to critically discuss this.
Why is that these employees at the collectorate worried about being late? Is a government job a license for being late?
It is written in the article that when the employee reach office, especially those who hop more than one bus, they usually get delayed by 10-15 minutes. They are worried if their salaries would be trimmed for being late.Shouldn’t they be?
The only question is “Are you employee worried only about you? What about the people who seek the service? Why are they able to reach the office earlier than the employees?
It is often a seen at most of the government offices in Kerala that there is a large queue. Many times these queues are because of the fact that the concerned officer in charge is not yet reached the office. In private sector companies & banks, if the office time is 10:00, then it means the staff should be ready to service the customers by that time. Let us see if a staff is late by 15 minutes, how it is going to affect the service they offer
Staff reaches the office (15 minutes late) by 10:15
S/he punches and goes to the seat (another 5minutes) 10:20
Arranges the table & desks. Goes to the rest room (another 15 minutes) 10:35
Comes back and have a chit chat with colleagues before servicing the 1st customer (10 minutes) 10:45
Is this called efficiency? More over all these government employees are members of one or other union, which will have meetings, briefings and small updates. All this time goes from the working hours.
Newspapers supporting these worries of the employees are not supporting the common man who seek the service, but those people who offer a bad service.
This critical topic is not about those government employees who service the people with best intentions and as per the rules. It is point to those who considers that being a government employee is a license for anything and everything.
What is your opinion about it?
